Common Wallaroo (Euro) – Macropus robustus
|
The Wallaroo is another unique Australian Wallaby which lives around rocy sites. During the day it sleeps in shelter, usually under a rock overhang or in a cave on the upper parts of a slope. At night these wallabies descend to graze on more level ground. It does not need to drink, obtaining all necessary water from its food.
The euros have short, reddish-brown fur and live in hot, arid environments in Australia. The male Euro may reach a weight of up to 50kg.
The gestation period of the Euro is about 34 days, with a single young born. The joey will suckle in its mothers pouch for about 9 months and then at its foot for a further 5 months.
