Agile Wallaby – Macropus agilis
|
Agile wallabies live in Forests, coastal areas and rocky hills, they
feed mainly on grass and sedges, and during the dry seasons will dig into the soil to obtain and eat roots. They will rest during the heat of the day in groups of up to 10, however when food is scarce their mobs will increase in numbers.
The Agile wallaby is sandy-brown with a paler stomach. It has distinctive dark stripes on the cheeks and forehead, and whitish stripes along the cheeks and thighs. The tail is long and slender with a black tip.
Agile wallabies will breed all year round with the female mating soon after giving birth. However, the embryo will remain dormant until the pouch is empty. The joey stays in the pouch for 7-8 months, and then suckles at the foot for a further 3-4 months.
