Swamp Wallaby – Wallabia bicolor

Swamp Wallabies live in Rainforest, schlerophyll forest, woodlands, & heaths throughout Australia, their diet consists mainly of native shrubs, grasses and ferns. They rest in thick undergrowth and will feed after dusk or during the day in overcast weather. The Swamp Wallaby truly is a unique addition to our Australian fauna.

 

This stocky wallaby has coarse dark brown fur, often with lighter rusty patches on the belly, chest and base of the ears.
Swamp wallby Breeding occurs throughout the year and, like many marsupials, females can suckle two joeys of different ages. The pouch life of each joey is 8-9 months, and may continue to suckle at the foot until 15 months of age.
