Cohunu Koala Park Company Profile

The Cohunu Koala Park is situated on 18 hectares of land at the top of the Darling Range and was established in 1982 with the arrival of several Koalas from the Eastern states.

The park is privately owned and all income is derived from overseas and local tourists, who are charged a set entry fee with discounts for tour operators and groups.

Visitors may stroll along bush pathways and tracks and view Western Australian fauna living in a natural environment.

The Koala colony has developed to over 20 Koalas and breeds 3 to 6 Koalas a year.

Tourists are able to purchase food and feed kangaroos, emus, ducks, chickens. Other activities include souvenir photos, model dinosaur displays, safari night and torchlight tours with a corroboree performance. Guests may also dine at the restaurant overlooking Perth (not run by Cohunu Koala Park) on site.

The keeping of the wildlife is governed by the Department of Conservation and Land Management license, which is to keep fauna for educational or public purposes only. The license limits the number and type of species able to be kept. To restrict the animals to these numbers the Park either stocks same sex pairs or culls numbers by returning species to the wild. The Park is in no way involved with the “breeding” of animals.

The license also required professional veterinary services to be sought for the treatment of sick or injured fauna. The Park does not provide any veterinary “care” for animals.

As a matter of policy the Park does not accept injured fauna brought in by the public or offer any form of “welfare” for animals. This is to ensure that tourists are only able to view healthy animals at all times.

The Park does not provide nor derive income from any form of boarding, kennels, agistment or “home” for any animals.

The primary objective of Cohunu Koala Park is to provide tourists with a variety of activities, including the viewing of Australian Fauna.

Cohunu Koala Park is approximately 35 minutes drive from Perth City Center.
